About NABS

What is NABS

The National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) is the only charitable organization in Canada that provides assistance to advertising, media and related industry professionals, who may need help due to illness, injury, unemployment or financial difficulties. NABS services include a national toll-free HELPLINE (1-888-355-5548), financial assistance, skills assessment and retraining, as well as emotional, personal and career counseling services. Founded in 1983, and supported 100% by the industry, NABS has contributed more than $7.5 million to thousands of industry colleagues and their families.

NABS has chapters in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

How Does NABS Help?

Individuals seeking assistance have only to ask by writing or calling a NABS office. Friends, co-workers and family members can also request an application for individuals in need. Once an applicant qualifies for NABS assistance, a private and confidential session is arranged with NABS counseling services partner - Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP). FSEAP is a national network of professional counselors, located in more than 1,000 communities across Canada. FSEAP then recommends a course of action to the NABS Allocations Committee – consisting of senior industry executives, which acts promptly and in complete confidence to provide the needed help. Applications and counseling are available in English and French.

NABS offers a variety of personal and career-oriented services to industry professionals:

  • Financial, Personal and Career planning
  • Workshops in ‘Managing Work-Life Balance’ and ‘Stress Management’
  • National 24-Hour Toll-free counseling ‘HELPLINE’
  • Short-term financial assistance

How Long Does NABS Help?

Our assistance should be seen as short-term, helping individuals to get to the point that they no longer require NABS assistance. This could be because NABS clients have re-entered the work force, have reorganized their personal expenses to fit their income, or have established government or other forms of assistance.

How Does NABS Fudraise?

NABS is supported 100% through fundraising within our industry. Unlike most charities that raise funds via memberships, government grants and cash donations, the majority of NABS rev enues are generated through annual industry fundraising events across the country. Regional chapters hold a number of fundraising events each year, including a Gala Dinner, Golf Tournament, Links For Women Golf Schools, Cannes Events.

Our largest national fundraiser is the NABS MEDIA AD AUCTION – Canada’s largest charitable auction. The 16th annual online auction offered more than 300 media packages, worth more than $3.0 million at a minimum of 50% off the rate-card value. If you want to register to bid or donate inventory for the auction – it runs online from February 19 – April 19, 2007 at www.nabsadauction.org
