Client Letters

The following letter comes from a 46 year-old single mother of one with 18 years of experience in media sales and has been freelancing for the last three. Faced with a fourth surgery, she did not have any financial resources to rely on for income during her surgery and recovery time, and turned to NABS for help:

"It is almost two months ago to the day I wrote to you on a Friday evening, the feeling of desperation overwhelming me. I had no idea how I was going to get through the next two months or even the next day. On Monday morning when we spoke, your voice and supporting, comforting words were like that of an angel. You assured me that everything would be fine and that I was not alone. You set things in motion; you followed up with me and gave me so much more than just monetary relief.

The NABS organization gave me the support financially and the strength emotionally that I so desperately needed to carry on. Because of NABS help, I was able to get through these past two months, focusing on what was required in order to put my life back together and move forward, versus living in a constant state of fear and anxiety.

I am going to see income by the end of this month and things are looking much more positive. Thank you NABS and a very special thank you as well to Family Services, as they were outstanding."

Signed,
"Sincerely Grateful"

A gentleman who has spent his whole career as a journalist/broadcaster wrote the following after a four-month illness:

"Dear Leslie:

I wanted to tell you something of the impact you and NABS had on us this year. When your cheque arrived, I opened it carefully and showed it to my wife. She looked at it for the longest time then folded her head into my shoulder and quietly began to sob.

The same stone that had been lifted from my chest a week earlier had just been lifted from hers. Your help made all the difference. Because of you, our bills were paid, the fridge is full and we had our first truly happy Christmas in a long, long time.

The four Cineplex Odeon passes you enclosed were especially thoughtful, because my wife and I haven't been on a 'date' for three years. I updated Family Services, and we agreed that your help had leveled the playing field for us, in that we weren't starting the New Year in a hole financially, climbing uphill while recovering from an illness. "In a philosophical context, I view you and NABS through a special kind of lens; Socrates defined two types of love. The first was agape; the love we feel for wives, husbands, children, family and the second was caritas, the love we have for our country, society and those less fortunate. Almost all of us have experienced agape at one time or another, but to find caritas in an individual is rare. To find it in an organization is virtually unique. You and NABS have it in spades and you demonstrate it on a daily basis."

To everyone at NABS, our very best,
"Remembering Your Kindness"

A freelance advertising / marketing specialist and single mother of one has been receiving short-term financial assistance, as well as career, personal, and financial counseling from NABS to help her through a difficult time in her life. Although her struggle is far from over, she recently wrote:

"Words cannot truly express my sincere appreciation for your financial and emotional assistance during this year. It was a true test of my strength of character and resolve. I almost lost everything near and dear to me and without your help I would not have made it.

"In my most recent conversation with Family Services, who were of immeasurable help and support to me during this period, I indicated that I have been most blessed with assistance from so many people. It has been a rather humbling, yet eye opening experience with many lessons learned.

"In my last letter to you, I mentioned that my commitment is to realize my dreams and full potential and to provide financial aid back to NABS, so that others are able to receive your generosity. I stand behind those words, after all your word is all you have. Furthermore, once I am in a financial position to once again donate to charity, I will most certainly be providing a donation to NABS on an annual basis.

"Once again, I am truly grateful to you and the NABS team for your support. Thanks for being there for all of us."

Kindest personal regards,
"Will be there for you in the future"

The next letter comes from a single mother of one living in Toronto. Working as a media buyer, she needed short-term assistance to help bridge the gap between her former salary and straight commission. She wrote:

"My daughter and I would like to thank you for your help and support over these troubled times. We couldn't do it without you. I'd like also thank-you for the Christmas 'bonus cheque' - it allowed us to have a wonderful turkey dinner and it helped Santa out a bit too.

"My daughter appreciated her gifts from you as well. She loves games and we try to have a 'family game night' as often as we can and the movie passes were a hit as well. "I understand that your assistance is temporary, but we both want you to know that we appreciate everything you've done for us. Your organization is much appreciated - hopefully by your donors as much as your recipients. We truly never know when circumstances will change us from one to the other."

Thank-you again for your help.
